Abstract: The influence of the shaping process in the drilled regolith of the Moon on the motion of an ultrasonic penetration device (PU) is considered. The conditions for overcoming the jamming of PU are formulated taking into account the changes in the properties of regolith with depth, including the presence of water ice. The requirements for the PU are considered when implementing two modes of its operation on the Moon: determining the water content in the regolith depending on the depth of drilling and taking soil samples to determine the content of volatile components.
