A STUDY INTO RHEOLOGICAL AND PHYSICHOMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BINDERS BASED ON CURING AGENTS L-19, ISOPHORONE DIAMINE AND JEFFAMINE D-230

Abstract: Here we explore epoxy binders based on resin ED-20 and curing agents L-19, isophorone diamine and Jeffamine D-230. The study aimed at investigating rheological and physicomechanical behavior of the binder specimens. Each binder specimen was fabricated with the recommended component ratio. The variation in viscosity of the binder was determined on a rotational viscometer. All the specimens were cured under the same conditions (at 23°С for 2 h, and then at 60°С for 4 h). The tensile strength of the specimens was measured as per GOST-R 11262-2017. The L-19-based binder had the highest initial viscosity and lowest survivability, while the isophorone diamine-based binder was quite suitable for molding the composites (90 min survivability). The lowest viscosity and highest survivability (over 5 h) were demonstrated by the Jeffamine-based binder. Curing agent L-19 is less suitable for fabricating glass fiber-reinforced plastics, as this binder has a strength of 15 MPa. The isophorone diamine-based binder exhibits a strength of 23.4 MPa. The Jeffamine-based binder has the highest strength of 50 MPa and an accaeptable deformability, which, together with good rheological behavior, allows it to be advised for making composites by the wet filament-winding technique
