Abstract: This paper presents an optical method for monitoring corrosion of the inner surface of a pipeline. Using a wide-angle lens to analyze the surface of the pipeline, optical distortions appear that affect the actual position of the defect and its size. An algorithm for eliminating geometric distortions and the process of analyzing metal corroded surfaces is presented. The developed algorithm is able to detect defects on the corroded surface of pipelines.
