DEVELOPMENT OF SYNTHESIS OF N,N’–DIBENZYLUREA FROM N,N’–DINITROUREA

Abstract: This study develops a new method for the synthesis of N, N’-dibenzylurea by reacting N, N’–dinitrourea with benzylamine, depending on the reaction mixture temperature. Two synthetic pathways were under study: pathway I – synthesis of N,N’–dibenzylurea via the isolation and characterization of the reaction intermediates, and maintenance of certain temperature condi-tions; pathway II – without isolation of the reaction intermediates. The isolated intermediates were benzylamine salt and mono-substituted benzyl nitrourea. The studies revealed that the preparation of N,N’–dibenzylurea without isolating the intermediates allowed the reaction time to be shortened and the yield to be increased. Characterization of the reaction end-products resulted from the two pathways showed that the IR and 1Н NMR spectra and melting point are consistent with the literature data, corrob-orating that the both samples are identical in structure.
